How to prepare your dog to meet Santa 🧑‍🎄

Here are some fun ways to help your dog get ready to meet Santa:

1. Practice with Friends in Hats and Costumes: Get your dog comfortable around people wearing unusual outfits or hats. If they can meet a “pretend Santa” in advance,

they’ll be less startled by the real one.

2. Bring Familiar Scents: Bring a favorite blanket or toy so your dog has something familiar to comfort them during the meet-and-greet.

3. Reward Calm Behavior: Practice rewarding your dog for staying calm around new people. This reinforces that meeting new people (or Santa) can be a positive experience.

4. Expose Them to Holiday Sounds: Play some holiday music or sounds in advance. The jingling bells and festive tunes at a Santa meet-and-greet will feel less overwhelming if they’ve heard them before.

5. Practice Posing: If you’re planning on a Santa photo, practice having your dog sit for a few seconds at a time with you or a friend posing beside them. Gradually work up to sitting for a longer period so they’ll be ready for the big photo moment.

6. Stay Close for Reassurance: When it’s time to meet Santa, stay close, pet them, and talk to them in a calm voice so they feel secure.

7. Santa Smells Like Treats!: Rub a treat on Santa’s glove or hand before they greet your pup, so Santa smells like a friend right from the start!

8. Skip the Lap: Let your dog meet Santa on the ground rather than going straight for the lap. This can help them feel more comfortable and less pressured.

Each of these small steps can make a big difference, helping your pup feel ready and relaxed for their special Santa meet-up!
